Privacy Policy

HoodVue lets a homeowner share specific exterior cameras with the security guards who watch their neighborhood, so that a motion alert is checked by a person instead of ignored. This page explains what we collect, what we deliberately do not collect, and how you stay in control of it.
What we never do
- We never receive audio. Video streams are requested without an audio track at all, so audio is not received and then discarded — it is never negotiated. Recorded clips are requested with audio disabled at the source. Sound-detection events are not processed.
- We never store video or images. Live video travels directly from your camera provider to the guard's browser and does not pass through our servers. Recorded clips are played from a time-limited link issued by your camera provider; we never download, copy, or retain the file.
- We never sell personal information, and we do not use your video or events for advertising or to train machine-learning models.
- We do not process doorbell-press events. Someone at your door is ordinary household activity, not a security signal.
What we hold, and for how long
- Your account: email address, and a password held by our identity provider (Amazon Cognito). We never see your password.
- Your address and its map coordinates, so a guard knows which home an alert came from.
- Contact details you choose to add — name, phone, email — shown to a guard only when they explicitly ask to see them, which is recorded.
- A list of your cameras and which you have shared, with whom, for what, and during which hours.
- Motion event metadata — which camera, when, and a coarse category such as “motion” or “person”. Kept for 7 days, then deleted automatically. Never a description of who someone is.
- Access tokens for the camera account you link, encrypted with a key we control and used only to serve the cameras you shared.
- An audit record of every camera view and every contact reveal: which guard, which home, under which group's authority, and when.
Who can see your cameras
Only on-duty guards of a group you have explicitly shared a specific camera with. Sharing is per camera and per group — nothing is visible until you choose it, and neighbors never get access to each other's cameras.
You can also limit the days and hours a shared camera may be viewed at all. Outside those hours guards see nothing from it: no live view and no motion events.
Joining a group shares no camera by itself. Every camera grant is a separate, explicit act.
Staying in control
You can stop sharing a camera, change its permitted hours, remove it from HoodVue, or leave a group at any time from your dashboard. Leaving a group ends every camera share to that group.
You can also revoke HoodVue's access from your camera provider's own app. We detect the revocation and stop serving those cameras.
To ask what we hold about you, or to have your account and data deleted, email support@hoodvue.com.
Who we share information with
We use service providers to run the product: Amazon Web Services for hosting, databases, and email delivery, and Google Maps for the map and address lookup. They process data on our instructions. We do not share your information with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Cameras in public view only
When you share a camera we ask you to share only exterior cameras covering areas a passer-by on the street could already see — never interior spaces, private areas, or rooms. If your camera provider supports privacy zones, we respect them.
Children
HoodVue is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the date above.
